VOX is serving up vintage sounds at NAMM 2024. The VRM-1 Real McCoy Wah Pedal harkens back to the original’s introduction in 1967—made primarily to chop trumpet player Clyde McCoy’s mute technique. Well, rock guitarists in the ’60s and ’70s found a lot more uses and tonal colors with their VOX wahs. Also making the scene is the V846 Original Wah—another icon of the classic-rock era. Both the Real McCoy and Original Wah are crafted with hand-selected, era-accurate variable resistors, inductors and hand-picked capacitors. You can’t lose with either, but the VRM-1 Real McCoy is characterized by singing mids, while the V846 Original Wah goes for a bit more bite on higher frequencies. Both wah pedals can take you right back to Jimi Hendrix’s Woodstock performance.
